Goal Setting for Success

One of the main reasons women entrepreneurs don’t meet their goals is because they set unreal expectations for themselves. They want to be successful and are usually handling most of the aspects of the business themselves. They are in a hurry to take their business to the next level so they set high-complicated goals.

When trying to achieve their goals during the daily pressure of running their own business, it can be quite frustrating. Things can be forgotten, dropped or not completed. Then when the goal is not met it may be very discouraging. This will only add to the stress of the entrepreneur.

Setting goals is an important part of business success. It is how you set the goals and implement them that makes a difference. When you look at what you want to achieve and then simply set a goal to do that, you set yourself up for failure.

The best way to set yourself up for success is to break the goal down into manageable pieces. Then set a realistic timeline for each piece to be completed. As each piece gets completed, the self-confidence rises as well as the excitement of getting closer to that goal.

Make sure that you give yourself enough time to complete each part of the goal. Remember that there are times that you have to do research, take training or learn how to do something new to meet the piece of the goal. So leave room in your schedule to be able to that without overwhelming yourself.

Breaking the goal into steps and putting it into your schedule is important. Treat the times that you have blocked out to work on the goal as important as anything else you put on your schedule. Work on that goal piece and nothing else during the allotted time. This will ensure that each piece will be completed in the timely manner so that the overall goal can be completed as planned.

When scheduling the time, allow extra time overall for the large goal to be completed in case something unexpected comes up so that it still gets done on time. As an entrepreneur, you are responsible for so many different aspects of your business. Because of this, if something unrelated to the goal takes precedence, you will run behind your timeline.

One of the most important pieces when taking on a large goal is to celebrate each small success. Don’t wait until you meet the overall goal to celebrate, do it for each piece. This keeps you motivated to keep going! Being self motivated is very important to the entrepreneur since many times there is no one else to motivate us.

Many of the women executives or entrepreneurs that I have worked with have been very successful following these steps to achieve their goals. So if you follow these five steps, you too will meet your goals with more ease.

1. Break your goal into pieces

2. Schedule each piece into your calendar

3. Get any training, support or education you need to achieve it

4. Work only on the goal piece during the scheduled time

5. Celebrate each and every success for each piece of the goal
