I love to go out for a nice meal in a restaurant. One of the things I noticed when I was newly single is that it is much harder to do it alone. I found places I enjoy eating out and would go to lunch instead of dinner. Or sometimes I would go to dinner where I knew the wait staff. It began to limit me. Friends are not always able to join you when you want to go.
I am a huge foodie and wine enthusiast and did not want to be limited by being single. So I started a foodie group on meetup.com. I began to book dinners out, wine tasting and drinks after work. People signed up and came. It turned out to be even more fun than I thought. I found a lot of like minded foodies to enjoy the experience with.
Friday night I organized a group of us to go to Poggio Trattoria in Sausalito. The food was amazing. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about Italian wine and let us each taste taste different wines until we each found one that we liked. The food was fabulous! Every time I organize a meet up, I never know which member is going to sign up for the event. It is a lot of fun and I have made some new friends. I am planning wine tasting events at wineries, honey tasting, cooking classes with private chefs, picnics, brunch and much more. The group continues to grow.
I was meeting with a client and she was having a hard time going through her divorce. She had lost most of her friends to her soon to be ex-husband and was struggling with being single again. She was feeling very lonely. I asked her what she liked to do for fun and what made her happy. She has since signed up on meet up and found groups that do things that she likes to do and is making new friends.
We can choose to be a lonely single or we can take charge of our lives and fill it with what makes us happy.
